Recession proof business ideas

We are currently now in the worst economy since the 1930s or 1940s. The current financial crisis has caused a net loss of over $7 trillion. Many people that were looking for to retiring are now forced to take second and third jobs and continue working far into their retirement years to make up for their losses. Hundreds of thousands and even possibly millions of jobs have been and will be lost as we head into 2009 and possibly even 2010.

As they said on the news we are no longer in Kansas but that means is the good days of the 80s and 90s and even prior with guaranteed job stability are long gone. The only guaranteed jobs are the ones we create ourselves. Recessions are actually the time when entrepreneurs shine. As a current Allstate TV ad states they were actually formed during the worst parts of the Great Depression. Great disparity, as a rule, brings about great innovation. So some of the greatest ideas and inventions emerge during these hardships and recessions.

Now what does this mean for you? While there are numerous niches and business ideas that actually thrive and will greatly enhance your chances of success during the current recession. First of these should be quite obvious to you as we are in a major financial crisis which was brought about by a lot of chicanery in the financial markets. So what that means is more regulation will come about from this and thusly a need for more accountants. As long as an individual has a degree in accounting and is not convicted of any crimes that has to deal with finances or accounting there will be plenty of work available to them in the accounting field. So starting in accounting related business is never a bad idea.

As Obama takes his office a part of his plan to rejuvenate the economy is massive infrastructure expenditures. What this means is, depending upon what infrastructures they will single out, there will be a demand for all kinds of building and construction related jobs. They're also be demand for architects and companies that build construction related parts and components. In the end of a recession the first companies to emerge victorious will be those related to the infrastructure spending. This is exactly the way it happened in the years following the Great Depression.

What is different with this deep recession versus the Great Depression is that there are numerous government stops in place to make sure the worst of the Great Depression does not reoccur. That includes bread lines, massive unemployment at a level of near 30% (we are at around 8% now), etc. was also different in this recession is that people are clinging to some technical gadgets like their advanced cell phones or smartphones and refusing to let them go. This shows that consumers are still holding onto technical advances and refusing to let a lot of it go.

So this means that even though we're in a deep recession technical advances and breakthroughs will still come about and people will still pay top dollar for them. It's like women and makeup. It has been said that women will go without food before they go without makeup. The same is true of these smartphones and other technical gadgetry that has made it way into the limelight. Companies like Rimm (creators of the Blackberry) and Apple (creator of the iPod and iPhone and home to the legendary Steve Jobs) will resort back to their core businesses and providing the latest in technical advancements.

Right now with deflation occurring in prices of components and equipment necessary to produce technical gadgetry like smart phones there is no time better than the present if you have the technical know-how and connections. Maybe out of this recession will come the latest smart phone or small computer or whatever advancements and they could come from a small company and not a mega-company like IBM.

Another area that will floor during this recession is the services area and that would be providing services that people need like stopping foreclosure, reducing debt, etc. now this is an area that has been a hotbed for fraud and so there are numerous governmental crackdowns that are either occurring now or that will be occurring shortly to address this rapid increase in fraud. As with anything else in business if there is an area where a lot of money can be made without a lot of investment very easily then that same area is ripe for abuse or fraud. A careful and stay away from anything that even looks remotely shady.

And of course there is one area that will always be a hot niche. The healthcare industry. Regardless of where people's money and savings may be currently they cannot change their health or their age. The need for nurses is at an all time high. Basically if someone has a nursing degree they have guaranteed employment for the rest of their life. This basically holds true for many positions and businesses in the healthcare sector. Yes there are some hospitals and medical groups that may falter due to over leveraging or other business mishaps, but the majority of businesses in the healthcare industry should flourish.

There always be a need for the latest antiviral or antibacterial drugs  and research in the medical field. As our global economy and countries begin to behave more like one unit the ever present scare or possibility of a pandemic will always be there. Just a few years ago we had the bird flu scare. This was a disease harbored in chickens and poultry that was able to change and affect humans. A disease like this could literally kill millions of people. So research into areas of infectious disease, genetic diseases, etc. will always be a necessary and needed niche.

There are other areas, like politics for instance that do not feel the recession, but these are the majority of the niches that will be recession proof and would be a great place to build or start a recession proof business or industry. As always holds true with each and every recession we go through, there will be technological advances brought through disparity and I look forward to seeing what the newest inventions will be.
