China, tainted baby milk, melamine and outraged Chinese parents.

If you haven't been keeping up with the news, apparently some greedy scumbags (2 brothers so far and others are being questioned) with little regard for human life watered down the milk used in producing baby formula and then used melamine to fool quality and safety checks.  This melamine is used in fertalizers and plastics and is toxic to humans.  So far 2 infants have died and as many as 1200 infants have become sick to various degrees.  This is absolutely horrible!

Apparently the 2 brothers did this to make up for money lost to some milk that was thrown out due to quality checks and inspections.  They just wanted to regain some of their losses and in so doing put millions of infants at grave risk.  That is just so wrong that China may consider the death penalty for these two if found guilty.  Unlike the U.S., China is pretty straight forward and quick about using the death penalty and they don't think twice about it.

How is it that greed can cause someone to do such a horrible thing or act?  When questioned, the brothers even stated that they knew the melamine was unhealthy for human use.  This is why we have governmental agencies like the FDA and others here in the U.S. to rule out things like this, but we still get botulism cases, and similar problems with tainted meats, bacteria in vegetables, etc...

The Chinese parents of these sick infants are outraged and should be.  This is akin to the U.S. pharmeceutical industry and food and agriculture back in the earlier part of this century and the later part of the 1800's.  Lots of things went on back then that were questionable.  From throwing rats, cats, dogs and more into the meat grinders to the use of filler chemicals and such to make for better product yields, lower costs and higher profits.

China, just like the U.S. will get through this and, just like the U.S., it will create new laws, rules, agencies and more to make sure this doesn't happen again.  So, whereas the recent news talks about regulation and deregulation - it is apparent that government regulation is not necessarily always bad and in some cases a neccessity.  Here at Bestbraindrain.com our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected by this gross act of misconduct by these two brothers.  We wish all the infants a swift recovery and hopefully no permanent impairments or conditions.
