Hurricane Ike is projected to become a catagory 3 major hurricane prior to landfall in Texas!

Everyone whom is watching the news or weather channel has now heard of Hurricane Ike.  It was a category 4 out in the Atlantic and slammed into Haiti and the whole length of Cuba.  They are still doing rescue and recovery efforts in both Cuba and Haiti.  Now that Hurricane Ike has cleared through Cuba it is now only a day or so away from landfall that is projected to be in Texas.

According to numerous weather and news shows, Hurricane Ike is going to make landfall just west of Houston and then curve northward so that its hurricane and tropical storm strength winds go right next to and even through Houston and several other heavily populated areas.  According to projections I saw on CNN the possible destruction from Hurricane Ike could easily top that of Katrina with over $80 billion dollars of damage.  This would make Hurricane Ike the most destructive Hurricane on record.

It would not be the strongest as Gilbert, Wilma and others had hit much higher sustained winds, but all one has to do is look at the shear size of Ike - its tropical storm force winds extend over 175 miles from its center - that is a big storm!  I hope everyone in its projected path down there in Texas takes heed and is evacuating the area.  From watching the financial news channel, it sounds like quite a few refineries and oil rigs are in the way of Ike.  I wonder if this will cause gas to go to $5 per gallon or more as a direct result like it did right after Hurricane Katrina.

After Hurricane Katrina the price of gas at the pump never really ever went back down to what it was before the storm and all the damage that occured to the refineries and pipelines.  And with it now averaging about $3.70 per gallon (depending where you are in the country) it wouldn't take much for the price of gas to spike to all time highs.  Well, I and all our readers (I'm sure), wish those that are in the pathway of Hurricane Ike a speedy recovery and our prayers go out to you.
