Awesome Black Widow pictures from Charlotte, NC
Here are some pics I took today of some local black widow spiders I thought you might enjoy. Notice one thing that differentiates the black widow from most other web spinning spiders - extremely fine and strong strands. Look at how just a few, thin strands can hold up small rocks, pebbles and other debris:

Here's another and this one shows the spiders egg sac which is almost as big as it is in the left side of the picture:

This was the biggest one and had earlier eaten her mate!:

And this one is my favorite picture:

The amazing thing is these pictures were all taken from a short walk through some new home construction near me. Many of these spiders were only a foot or so from the road in and around utility boxes, construction debris, rocks and a small creek.
