The White house announced today that there would be further crackdowns and more serious implications for those whom chose to employ illegal immigrants.  Employers caught utilizing the illegal workforce will face harsher penalties (as much as 25% higher than previous) and possible criminal penalties.  This is expected to greatly effect businesses known to routinely use illegals - landscapers, home remodling and construction companies, wineries and  farms, etc...

It is important to note that Walmart and even U.S. Airways have been suspected and or caught employing large numbers of illegal immigrants in the past).  With the advent of digital copying equipment and the ever advancing internet it has become rather easy for an illegal to obtain realistic documents and this makes it that much harder for legitimate businesses to verify if someone is illegal or not.  In the past, all that was really ever needed was 2 documents like a drivers license and social security card to prove employment eligibility.

What is the government going to require now?  A complete background and criminal check on each potential employee?  Maybe we need to tattoo a unique identification number on each newborn baby before they are released from the hospital?  Or maybe, like we do with dogs and cats, insert identification chips under the skin (can anyone say a sure sign of the impending Armegeddon mentioned by John in the bible in the book of Revelations - it says they will all bear the mark). 

Now relating this to Revelations may be going a little too far, but basically everything that George Bush and his staff do either falls short, doesn't happen or completely backfires.  This 25% increase in penalties and such will have zero impact.  What really needs to happen here is to take a good look at what is really happening and why.  Why is it that Mexicans (the majority of illegals in this country enter from Mexico) want to leave their country in droves, journey across a 100 degree plus desert terrain for miles with no safety net, pay transporters upwards of $1000 to be smuggled in, take huge risks, etc...?  Because life is much better here than there!  Why did Mexican officials give pregnant Mexican women instructions on how to get across the border, locations of healthcare facilities and other information telling them that their babies if born on U.S. soil will become citizens and the healthcare would be covered by American taxpayers, etc...?

The problem is not with the illegal immigrants.  It is not their fault that the Mexican government is extremely corrupt and favors monopolies and the extremely rich and wealthy.  Hmmm, how is it that Mexico with not even 1/1000th of the population of the U.S. has the newly richest/wealthiest person in the world Carlos Slim worth over $58 billion?  He is so wealthy that his worth compromises more than 5% of the entire Mexican economy (probably more as the rich have many more ways of hiding their wealth in Mexico as they don't have the IRS down there or anything even remotely close). 

So is it possible that the relaxed business rules and laws which have allowed Carlos Slim to greatly aquire wealth have hurt the rest of the Mexican population?  No where else in the world is there such a great disperity between the rich and poor classes as there is in Mexico.  Maybe what really needs to happen is that we (George Bush and congress) need to rethink about our foreign policy with Mexico.  NAFTA was not a solution.  It helped creat Carlos Slim. 

Why don't we see Canadians running across the border to America?  They don't have anyone as rich as Carlos Slim and also have 100 times or more the Mexican population.  Is it possible that because we (America) and Canada and numerous other nations have laws and rules governing businesses and illegal monopolies, unfair business practices, etc that this is why our nations don't have people flocking to leave?  What do you think about this?  This is a very important topic and whether you agree or disagree with me, you need to make your opinions known by voting and paying attention to your local, state and federal politics.  You can vote and you can make a choice - let your elected officials know if you approve or disapprove of their actions.  Participate.

Bottomline, the Mexican government needs to be made responsible for their not taking care of their people.  Maybe America needs to take over Mexico and make it our 51st state?  What do you think?  In my book, Mexico is a complete failure, not the illegals - its not their fault - they are just trying to do the best thing for their families (which is the same thing you or I would do).
